Blog Platforms

A Blog platform is the site you are using to create and host your Blog.

Below are a few of the platforms you may be interested in using in your classroom.

Cost: Free
Ease of Use: Easy for New Bloggers
This blog has been created using Blogger. This is, in my opinion, one of the easiest blogging sites to use. The possibilities for usage in the classroom are vast, as there are many "gadgets" which can be embedded on your page. If you're going to make your first Blog, I suggest doing it with Blogger! The downfall...Blogs can be made on this site on virtually any topic, some being inappropriate for students. If your school's filter is strong enough, this is something that won't be a concern for you. If your school has a weak filter, this could allow students to be traveling to places where they shouldn't be.

Cost: $39.95 per year
Ease of Use: Medium difficulty for beginners

EduBlogs is a bit more advanced than Blogger, but also a bit more secure for a school setting. You class Blog on this site can be password protected or left anonymous, but the real kicker here is that your Blog is hosted by a site that is totally dedicated to only Educational Blogs (there is almost no chance of your students stumbling on something inappropriate). There is a cost of almost $40 per year, but this could be worth it if your school filters are not all that strong.
