Post a picture of a current event or something that is engaging to students, and then ask them to write a short story about this. This will get the creative juices flowing for students.
For some of my students, this may be difficult, so I would include 2-3 story starters to get them started.
As an extension, you may have students correct the work of their peers or continue a classmates' story. There are many ideas for extension activities using Blogs.

Your task:
Look at the picture below and write a short story about a topic of your choice. Be sure to use the rubric that we created in class.
If you finish early, you may comment on a classmates' story or write a continuation of a friend's story.
